Prelicensing Requirements
The following is a SUMMARY of the prelicensing requirements. For the precise requirements, go to ADRE's website.
To obtain an Arizona real estate salesperson's or broker's license, you must:
 Meet or exceed the minimum requirements, and
 Meet certain education requirements (which means that you must meet the classroom education requirements or receive a waiver of the education requirements), and
 Pass a real estate school examination (unless waived), and
 Pass the state real estate examination, and
 Submit a fingerprint card and an application to the Arizona Department of Real Estate (ADRE) and be approved by ADRE, and
 Pay a fee to ADRE, and
 Satisfy post-licensing education requirements.
Requirements to obtain an Arizona real estate salesperson's license:
- No residency requirement (need not be an Arizona resident)
- 18+ years old
- 90 hours of classroom instruction; no online instruction for prelicensing courses
- Pass school examination
- Pass state examination; 75% or better. The Arizona Real Estate National Exam (Part 1) consists of 80 questions on real estate principles, practices and federal laws governing real estate with a time limit of two hours. A minimum score of 75 percent (75%) is required to pass. The Arizona Real Estate State-Specific Exam (Part 2) consists of 60 questions on Arizona-specific real estate laws an rules with a time limit of 1.5 hours. A minimum score of 75 percent (75%) is required to pass.
- Must activate license within one year of state exam or must re-test
- Must take 6 hour contract writing course before activating license
- Submit fingerprints (criminal background check)
- Complete and submit application to ADRE

- 18+ years old
- 90 hours of classroom instruction; no online instruction for prelicensing courses
- Pass school examination
- Pass state examination; 75% or better. - Active in real estate for 3 of last 5 years
- Must take broker management clinic before receiving broker’s license (designated broker must take broker management clinic every two years)
